Folks,

with the german summer seemingly being a twin of autumn (rain all day long, winds blowing, etc.), i already started preparing my textile cabinet for the upcoming fall season. I have ever been a fan of Polo Ralph Lauren´s youthful sub-brand "Rugby", but refrained from buying stuff so far because of their rather sophisticated prices...until today. I just couldn´t hold myself back when i saw those two beauties:

as said many times before, i try to show new stuff with every post i´m uploading here. Still, sometimes you got to stick to textile choices that have proven successfull (in my case that means "looking dapper") in the past.

I am pretty sure i used this shirt / tie / sc combo before, and maybe even the pants / socks / shoes have been seen in this particular configuration.

There´s likely only one reason to be drawn then: i need new stuff ! ;-)

spent a hell of a weekend with some colleagues from my workplace at the shores of Zaandvort, a dutch seaside ressort. We had great food (i had been the chef), great talks, a lot of laughter and playtime and sincerely enjoyed ourselves. Thanx a lot, guys!

been having the greatest time over the weekend, as my love was with me in DüDo and we could enjoy the world´s biggest music show together...the image probably gives you a hint about the stuff that was entirely brilliant saturday night:

Monday had me doing the usual stuff, working and looking fly as ever...despite the fact that i wasn´t lucky two times in accomplishing my self-induced missions: getting my recently bought new tie (due to postal loss) and fetching up my new MTM shirt. The guys over at Dolzer screwed it a second time, there are still heavy creases around the collar...

While breaking the rules can be fun sometimes,there are however some laws describing how to dress appropriately that should be abided. One of the most renowned conaisseur of classic men's wardrobe, style expert Alan Flusser has written a book named "Dressing the man", in which he provides very insightful and interesting facts about fabrics, makers, production details and consequently, style rules. One of the chapters in his book is dealing with the question how to combine layers of different designs. It seems clear that a plain tie and plain shirt can never fail (apart from colour issues), but what about donning a striped shirt and a paisley tie, or even more daring, layers from four different stylistic backgrounds (stripes, herringbone, paisley, checks)?As i was reading this theoretical background and the underlying principles, i felt tempted to give it a practical try (hence today's title) today: an attempt in vain or a reasonable illustration of mixing abilities?

Folks,

two remarkable events took place over the weekend: i got thrown out of the train on friday (not for looting or smacking other passengers up, but for emergency-stopping the about to leave train...) and totally lost track on my saturday run, effecting in a delay of an hour and forcing me to run more than 5 km extra...well done, i´d say :)

Thankfully sunday didn´t hold any displeasures in disguise, but a lot of sunshine, a walk along the river and savouring delicious icecream with friends.

i had an awesome day today: it started off with feeling proud and confident when i got to work, continued throughout the day and ended with sipping beer and eating pizza with A and S, two of my colleagues. Nothing better than chatting, enjoying springtime and laughing together with people that matter.

Clothwise, today´s get-up included pretty much everything i like when getting dressed: colours, patterns, woolen ties, short trou and desert boots. If i had to choose a look that totally represents me and might serve as a dressing signature, that would be probably it.

i usually dress to satisfy my own satorial likes, nevertheless i find it quite amusing to receive comments on my everyday get-up, may they be criticizing me or praising my style...today´s shirt-tie combo provoked my fellow colleagues to call it "bavarian from head to toe". Well, the shirt certainly could be used with Lederhosen, alas it has french cuffs...

The "mix and match" as indicated in the title above grounds on the fact that i matched the shirt to the shoes (red-red), the socks to the ps (green-green) and the tie to the jeans (blue-blue). Well, i am trying hard ;-)

Luciano & Ralph or "The striped iGent"

today´s look has been shaped by two factors: my new Luciano Barbera cashmere tie (a vintage one) and the fact that i dare think that this look could have been styled by Polo Ralph Lauren. Not necessarily qualitywise, but colourwise. The simple fact that i added a silver collar pin made it look special and dashing (at least in my eyes).

If you disagree, that´s fine: i´ll call it "The striped iGent" then :)

Folks,

after yet another splendid weekend with loads of sunshine, an ever so lovely gf and gathering up with friends in the park (not wearing the new suit i snatched up for 99€), the day started off like every other monday: dressing to the nines, riding into town and spending a good share of the day in the office. Getting told by your boss you´re doing a good job makes it a pretty good start, hein? ;)

So, it was all about featuruing a kind of "italian" look today, which seems pretty reasonable under the predominant weather conditions: sunny, yet chilly mornings transforming into beautiful warm middays and afternoons, with smoothly upcoming freshness in the evening...ah, i love it!
The title refers to the maker of my lates ebay-find, a vintage golden and caramel-coloured cashmere tie made by Luciano Barbera. Now does this thing get you in the italian mood?

yet another lovely sunny day in Düdo: spent my lunch time pacing the streets with Mike, fabulous author of Inner City Style. We strolled down to the river site, went across Carl´s Place and stopped to take pictures of me on one of the many bridges overstretching the rhine on Kö...the day ended in Rio, or better put, with Rio and Joe...went to see that new 3d movie named "Rio", the story being about a blue parrot...kiddy thing, but i´ve been invited, so that justifies going there, i guess....cheers, Jan and Werbe Weischer :)

Cords made my day, along with some new brown suede tassle loafers (the same last as the blue ones from this post) and the lovely tie i recently shopped at Scott Alexander´s great CKC shoppe.

spring is about to fully enforce its regiment, yet there are some wee hours in the morning where you would think former times are still in effect...it´s hard work to dress accordingly.

Anyway, i sported my recently aquired jacket by fellow blogger Paolo of Suitorial, a great guy with an even better wardrobe. Cheers, chap!

Stil feeling the green

Folks,

i´m back from Dublin, the lovely capital of the evergreen island of Ireland. Went there with my family and girlfriend to see my sister, who´s currently working there. I saw an Irish theater play called "Lay me down softly", went to the Irish Modern Museum of Art, strolled through The Jail, had a lovely walk just alongside the shores of Greystone and Bray and ate delicious food at The Farm, The Queen of Tartes and Porterhouse.

What could be better than spending time with your loved ones, enjoying some fine stout, food and a great city? Pretty much nothing, i guess...

the style-savy amongst you know what the title refers to, but for all the peeps who are not familiar with this expression, i´ll explain it: this term refers to the "scream" a silk knit tie lets out when you squeeze it tightly...that sound is a sign of good quality, so if you ever see someone squeezing silk knit ties in your preferred local men´s wear shop, you know what the guys´s doing there :)

Best part of it: i only paid 10 bucks for this lovely burgundy knit one...awesome!

Some more foolery with accessoires today...a golden collar pin (watch out, Marco!), a golden tie clip with a rider on it and a flowery pocket square.
Spring justifies it all, i guess...

it´s always nice to find out that you share certain feelings with others. Even the more so when both parties voice their thoughts concurrently, as happened today. I´m pretty much a music addict (apart from fashion) and was totally surprised when my colleague I told me she favoured the same bands like i do. Nice!

Clothwise i brought out the red slippers again, a db jacket and a bow-tie. Calling for spring, i´d say.

spring is taking up pace and i need to say that i feel accordingly, at least when it comes to dressing. Despite the fact that the mornings still call for extra layers to go underneath the jacket (e.g. cardigan), one can notice rising temperatures with every hour passing...

Scott Alexander, author of The Cable Knit Collegian and shop owner of CKC shoppe, inspired me to host my own shop, which´s entrance can be found in the left corner. Additionally, i recently bought some ties over at Scott´s and now look what he got me: how awesome are those? (the two on the left even came as a gift...). yet another fine day on the shores of the Rhein: remarkably warm (about 11 degrees), a freshly blowing spring wind and loads of sunshine. To even top that off, i could leave the office quite early today and went sale shopping to Neuss, another raid to Tkmaxx then. What first seemed to be a complete waiste of time finally turned into a pleasing journey: i could score a cashmere / silk tie, a fully uncanvassed dark blue cotton blazer with working cuffs and a nice floral/paisley scarf...summer, get yourself through the door, i am ready!

As mentioned in the title: last time for tweed today. This kind of fabric will not reappear any sooner than october.
Sorry for the blurry pic, seems as if my camera even can´t stand tweed anymore...off ye go!

Before i start to answer your comments: i seized my early work´s leave to reorganize my tie collection, separating them into two batches: the silk ones and the woolen ones (or mixed fibers)...in my eyes i have now layed a solid base, but there is a lot of room for improvement :)

clearly not in terms of mindset, but in terms of colour: felt like bringing out the well-known combo grey / tan out today...along with a thick dark blue wool tie in herringbone weave and one of my self-cut pocket squares.

Apart from that, i brought two recently bought jackets to a tailor Mike of InnerCityStyle told me about: although the shop itself seems pretty much packed and not very welcoming from the outside, the tailor (a lady) seems to successfully run her business. I´m pretty keen on the outcome and i am sure she´ll meet my expectations.

Enough with the babbling...btw: do you guys prefer the larger picture sizes or do you want me to return to the old, smaller shaped ones?

had yet another splendid weekend with my love, some nice food and chilling out on our couch...nothing too fancy, really.

When i thought about what to wear on this monday, i decided to go for some POW check and that lovely vintage orange woolen tie from Scotland. I´m pretty sure the upper half has been worn and shown here before, but what the heck, it still makes up a decent dress (and with the grey pants, it´s something new). Ah, and before you start complaining: the sc is tight in the waist, but not as much as it looks in the shots :)

what a week...long days in the office, a million things to do in order to keep the engine running...but guess what: love it ;)

My very first bespoke item left homely shores to see DüDo´s daylight today...Julian, mastercutter, made this beautiful double-breasted vest, executioned with all the little details that truly do seperate it from rtw-stuff: lines exactly meeting each other over flaps, perfectly sewn button holes, extraordinary fit, etc. I simply love it and it won´t be the last thing i´ll have Julian working on for me. Once again: a million thanx, boy!!

Today´s get-up was inspired by SF challenge "Trad"...do i qualify for participating with it?

the carnival season officially came to an end this wednesday, after five days of foolery, drunk people in the streets and costumes that shall not be seen until next year. Traditionally, the end of this particular season itself is celebrated with enjoying fish for lunch, and by fish i mean all kind of fish (drowned with some fine Alt, of course).

We´ve been kindly invited by big publishing company Burda to a famous old brewery called Schuhmacher´s, a really nice place that´s oozing 150 years of brewing tradition and accommodating guests. Thanx a lot!

Today was yet another new-tie day, been wearing one from the recently purchased staple. Made from wool, silk and cashmere, it nicely matched the rest of the outfit (at least in my eyes):

Dancing with Kylie

spent a wonderful time at home with the best girl on the planet, who happens to be my love!

We met some friends on friday, finalizing the day with delicious white wine and some olives/cheese/salami and bread, followed by a tasty french tarte flambée and almond chocolate. No way we could withstand the carnival season, so the two of us went on a carnival party in M, dancing our heels off (and drinking some beer to fight the thirst). Sunday was all sunny and clear sky, so we went into the woods, accompanied by some of our friends. Three hours later (after walking 10 km), we prepared for sunday´s highlight: joining the crowd in partying with Kylie Minogue. She´s on tour right now and she played one hell of a show, i gotta admit. Due to the fact that monday was off for both of us, we only had to separate on monday evening. Sweet!

yet another sunny day in DüDo. Spent some time outdoors, went to Oxfam to donate a suit and a jacket and afterwards had a quick step into P&C. Guess what, another tie blow out :)...seized the opportunity and bought two ties for 10€ (yeah!) and linen pocket square. Pretty cool design, nay?

Went with a blue cord suit today, a woolen knit tie and a double-breasted vest. No, not Julian´s, this one´s going to be seen in here next week :)

as indicated yesterday, my colleagues gave me a gift voucher for a birthday present, and hell, did i spoil myself today...went totally nuts on a preppy-belt and some cashmir and woolen ties...awesome:

Today´s wardrobe consisted of another self made bow, some cords and a checked sweater with a button-down shirt. I felt pretty trad today, although some might surely say i lack the spirit of Oxford (or the brains, which definitely is the case): anyway, i felt great wearing it and that´s all that matters.
Plus: i went to see Julian for finally getting my hands on my first bespoke clothing item. Julian really did an unbelievably great job in cutting, styling and sewing my double breasted vest, made from tweed. I´ll host pictures of this beautiful item the day after tomorrow...Julian, i´ll see a great future for us working together coming up! :)

Back in the game

Folks,

after an absence of ten days, i´m not yet fully recovered, but at least wearing some reasonable textile sheets wrapped around my outer shell. Starting with blue-striped shirt with contrast collar, a dark blue merino shawl collar cardigan and a grey tweed jacket. The pop of color springs from my new silk pocket square, a lovely gift by my Dad for my 26th birthday. You know, i´m a sucker for paisley, so this will easily become one of my favourites ;)

One thing noteworthy: i have the best colleagues ever! It is a common tradition to collect some money for the ones celebrating birthday. Normally you´d be given an amazon gift voucher, but i received a far better one: one valid to shop at one of my favourite local men´s wear stores! Whoaaaa, great! Thx a lot, guys :)

Folks,

after yesterday´s colourful get up with burgundy red, yellow, blue, white and tan, i decided to take one step back on the crazyness scale and went with grey all over the place. As you can tell by the pics following, the mess was caused by varying textures, this time: we´ve got stripes, dots, herringbones, checks and solids on display...From a colour perspective, it was blue, white, grey, black and purple. If i had to extinct all colours but one, my choice for "last shade standing" would be....na......purple :)

Additionally, i went to CFC today, accompanied by Mike of Inner City Style. Great folks there and plenty of cool stuff, reduced by 50%. Sale, baby! Still, i only bought two things: a knitted laple flower and a metal button.

oh, what a beautiful and amazing weekend i had...spent quality time with my lady, went sale shopping and to the cinema, gathered with friends at a local coffee bar...nothing better than that (topic #1)

Secondly, had a smooth start today...nothing too hard, but still being busy. Best thing: went to see Julian for the second fitting of my bespoke waistcoat, and it´s shaping up more and more. (topic #2).

After my return home, i cleaned up my messy place, using my new vacuum cleaner (thanx a lot, Mum!). Then i planed to blog, but completely failed...why? I forgot to bring the cable from our place to Düdo and had to search for alternative ways to get the pics up on the net...took me nearly 2 hours to figure out how to extract them....and then i fucked up my archive: due to my incapability, i deleted one of my picasa albums, resulting in missing pics in 2010 posts...god damn!! (topic #3)

during my lunchbreak, i first dropped a package at the post office and afterwards went to P&C and H&M...and guess what, i could have bought a million things, but could resist most of it...i only couldn´t pass that virgin wool tie, handmade by italian manufacturer Altea...so sweet!

When i came home, another parcel was stuck in my post box...Mr. Midwester once again packed the sweetest ties ever and handed them over to me, as part of his StyleShare project...Aaron, i´m soooo thankfull, they´re just great, beyond awesomeness! Orange...obsession?

seems as if i have lately grown some obsession with the colour of orange...today the sweater and the pocket square contained some. Excuse my grumpy look in the first pic, i am slow starter into the day (i took the pic this morning before i got to work.)

Apart from that i went to Neuss to check some stuff at TKmaxx. What a waste of time, really epic. Feels like goods haven´t changed since my last ride there (which was in early november). Well, i certainly saved money. Not that bad, taking into account that i´m still longing for a brown herringbone tweed jacket...

I´ve now discovered that i can make use of my WiFi-only Ipad, even if it´s not logged into my wlan at home...i´ll use my mobile to make up a hotspot, thus being able to serve as a modem for my Ipad. This way i can surf whereever i take the ipad...awesome!

Back from Austria and back to work on Wall....hm, Green Street

spent a lovely week in Austria skiing. Me and a bunch of guys had all sorts of fun and it wasn´t even about anything related to clothes (well, in fact, only a bit). Weather´s been great except for one day, mood´s been fairly enthusiastic and everything went well.

So, when i got back to work today i felt the need to get dressed again. And that is why i chose my recently aquired vintage db vest to be part of the ensemble: the orange tie always reminds myself of Wall Street traders, but don´t ask why...and to top it of, bright orange socks.

I am now seizing the opportunity to thank one of my fellow bloggers, Yankee-Whiskey-Papa: good Sir, your present has been delivered and it is of utmost pleasure to me. Thank you so much for handwritten words and the goods that were part of it. I´ll definitely find a place for the collars to use! one thing that´s always funny and interesting is how people react on my get-ups: my co-workers certainly know that they can say whatever they think about it, without me being mad if they don´t like it. So i was all smiles today when i was told i´d look like Sherlock Holmes and one other naming me "Lümmel von der ersten Bank". You certainly know the history of the first mentioned, for the latter some might need clarification: The "Lümmel von der ersten Bank" were a couple of young fellas from the identically named series of movies, who were trying to fool their teachers, experience their first steps in physical love, fighting hierarchies and structures within the school system...shot at the end of the sixties, it worked as a stepping stone for many now famous german actors...so that´s not all to bad, being compared to a famous detective and a bunch of well-known movie kids, ha? ;)

had yet another wonderful weekend with the best girl possible on my side, gathering with friends, nice talks, good music, a good read...what more can you ask for?

Well, nothing i guess....the only thing i can announce is that we are yet to welcome new followers to our little group: cheerio to Hendrik, Michael, Kemal and Adrian. Hope you´re finding whatever it was you´re searching for in here :)

A quarterthousand posts on human interaction

Folks,

ever since i started blogging, i had the feeling of being a part of a big community. A community that is not actively formed by joining a club or becoming a member of some fraternity, but by common interest and common shared attitude towards personal communication.

For us bloggers, sharing thoughts is what it´s really about. Being keen on the ideas of others is our mutual fuel for getting our stuff out there, everyday i guess. At least, that´s what it´s like for me...
I´m just telling you because i received an email today, by Tim, who thanked me for passing along the recommendation for Viccel. It felt great to know that someone would like the stuff that i recommended...and what even made my day better: unexpected praise and the start for my first bespoke project, the double-breasted waistcoat, made from the finest Breanish POW check. Julian, who will be in charge of the operation, was a great host tonight and worked his measurements all around my upper boday. Thx again for having me, Julian, and seeing forward to the results :)

Sartorial soberness

i´ve been lately tuning down the volume on my outfits...why, you probably ask. Honestly, the main reason is cause i feel like doing so. It´s just a phase i guess and i´ll be fooling around soon again, but for the moment: sartorial soberness is the parole. The only extravagance i´m allowing myself to display (only here) are my Merino Wool red dress socks from Kemal´s company Viccel. You all know about the quality and durability, no need to talk any further.
